The FIFA Films team based in Zug, Switzerland is FIFA's partner responsible for the management, maintenance and commercialisation of the FIFA Films Archive.
The FIFA Films Archive encompasses the most extensive footage available from the FIFA World Cup™ tournaments, 1930 - 2006. The collection consists of all the Official FIFA World Cup™ Films produced from 1954 - 2006, including most of the out-takes and rushes and also all televised FIFA World Cup™ games from 1966 - 2006. As well as the more well known World Cup Finals, the archive also holds material from additional FIFA events such as FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments and various other Youth and Senior FIFA Championships.
All of this footage is carefully catalogued and logged on a purpose-built state of the art database ensuring quick and easy access for client's requests.
In addition to global clip, official film and match sales, FIFA Films operates a fully digital broadcast standard facility area, catering for client's dubbing, compiling and production needs across both digital and analogue formats and also full broadcast Avid editing suites which primarily generate archive programming for sale worldwide.
Whether it is images from Brazil's first ever victory in a FIFA World Cup™ in Sweden in 1958 or footage of Maradona's unforgettable performances in Mexico 1986, all of the greatest football moments are now available at FIFA Films. World football's governing body has grouped together all of its unique video archive material from various parts of the world in Zug (Switzerland), where FIFA Films is located.
"I am happy that we have reunited our rich video heritage within FIFA Films as the past serves the future. FIFA will continue to upgrade its archive in the future in line with technical developments to enable the entire football family to access and relive historic moments from our football history," said FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter.
FIFA Films consists of over 30,000 hours of reels and video tapes dating as far back as 1930, the year of the first FIFA World Cup™ in Uruguay. It also includes moving images from all FIFA competitions to date such as the various World Cups at youth level and events for women, futsal and beach soccer. In addition, it also provides unique footage of FIFA's other events such as the various draws and galas - to name but a few.
For full matches as well as official films, formats include 16mm, 35mm and standard-definition (SD) television format. High-definition (HD) footage has been in existence since 2002, starting with the FIFA World Cup™ in Korea/Japan. Last year's FIFA World Cup™ in Germany was the first to be fully produced in HD.
In the years to come, FIFA will continue to upgrade the service and technology level of FIFA Films to turn it into a state-of-the-art archive by 2010 when the next FIFA World Cup™ will be staged in South Africa. FIFA Films is serviced by Infront Sports & Media, a long-standing partner of FIFA since 2002.
